A Stormy Start To The Year
As we enter the second quarter of the year, I wanted to update you on the first few months of 2022, covering all the many positives as well as some of the challenges we have been facing that you may already be aware of.
It has quite literally been a “stormy” start to the year with regular setbacks caused by weather and resource issues however we can now see light at the end of the tunnel and are hugely grateful to our customers for their continued loyalty and support.
I have tried to keep our customers informed as much as possible about the challenges we have been faced with in terms of resource. It’s a battle many companies have been facing over the last 6 months and not an easy fix when there’s so many contributing external factors at play.
Despite this, Lesley, our Business Development Manager has been working relentlessly on our recruitment strategy to not only attract but retain the right people to join the CleanTEC family.
We have created more part time and flexible working arrangements to create opportunities for people who require a balance between work and other commitments. We also continue to prioritise our efforts in ensuring CleanTEC is a great place to work with a positive culture and focus on team wellbeing (mental and physical).
Thankfully our efforts have paid off as we have seen an increase in job applications and are delighted to see our teams building back up. We still have some vacancies so if you know of anyone who may be interested in joining CleanTEC, they can apply via the links below.
Another change we made to our recruitment strategy was to broaden our recruitment search and give opportunities to individuals with no or minimal cleaning experience.
Our new team members follow a well defined and robust training program consisting of online and on the job training overseen by an experienced team member . Myself and the managment team have increased our time on-site to support the new team members. We conduct regular quality checks on completed work and promptly rectify any work identified as not being to standard.
High standards and reliability set us apart from our competition therefore ensuring our team meet these standards remains our number 1 priority.
Wellbeing – CleanTEC Bootcamp
You may have seen on our social media pages that we recently set up a CleanTEC bootcamp for our staff members. It was an 8-week program running on a Saturday morning and designed to give our team members the opportunity to improve their physical health and kick start their fitness goals for 2022. The team absolutely loved it (maybe not the 6am wake up calls) and I’m delighted to hear many of them plan to keep it up.
Wellbeing has always and will always be huge on our agenda at CleanTEC. It’s a passion of mine to inspire people to look after their mental and physical health. Last year we invited a coach into our Head Office to introduce our team to the benefits of mindfulness which was a huge success and something we will build on over the next few months.
My Endurance Journey - Charity Partnership
Health and fitness is a huge part of my life and always has been, it helps me turn up everyday, the best version of John Ross, keeping my mind and body strong. I love to challenge myself and once I decide to do something I’m fully committed to seeing it through. Martial arts & weightlifting were my passion for a long time, however over the last few years I have moved into more endurance type training, mainly running, cycling and climbing. I was the guy that said I’d never run a marathon, who in their right mind would do that!! However almost 2.5 years ago I took part in my first endurance event, at that time I didn’t have the same drive I’d had in the early years of business and I felt the need to challenge myself. That has since led to multiple marathon distances covered, duathlons and many long days/expeditions in the Scottish mountains (make the uncomfortable, comfortable). Now I’m taking on my biggest challenge yet! In less than 2 weeks I will take part in the ‘Highland Ultra’ a self-sufficient coastal/mountain ultra-marathon (125km) in the remote Knoydart Peninsula of the Scottish Highlands. Getting ready for this event has been a huge challenge in itself, training mosts days, sometimes multiple times a day on top of running multiple businesses and of course the most important job of all, being Dad. The event takes place on 21st April over 3 days and I am using this opportunity to raise money for a local community charity - Heavy Sound.
Heavy Sound support vulnerable, disadvantaged and disengaged young people who haven’t had the best chance in life. They aim to re-engage young people through innovative projects involving music, mixed martial arts, muay thai, film making and peer mentoring as well as skills development, qualifications and employability. This resonates with me as I love helping and encouraging people to believe in themselves and reach their full potential (do more - be more).
I normally do these type of challenges to motivate myself but feel I need to do more to support others along the way and I’m really happy to partner with Heavy Sound. If you would like to offer your support, please use this link, any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's not goodbye, it's 'see you later'. We said 'see you later' to a CleanTEC legend this month - Stuart, our receptionist/admin assistant has decided to retire. Stuart joined the business to help support us with our growth plans 2 years ago and played a massive role from day 1. Many of you will have spoken with Stuart over email or phone and I’m sure you will agree that his thoroughness, customer service skills and desire to help shone through.
The good news is that Stuart has offered to provide holiday cover in the office when needed and will help us on an ad-hoc basis. We are currently recruiting for Stuart's replacement so if you know anyone who may be interested, please share the link below.
We have been holding back as long as possible to review our prices especially in the current difficult times. Our last price increase for window cleaning and commercial customers was over 2 years ago as we made the decision to postpone a price increase last year. However, like many businesses, we are experiencing an increase to costs and as inflation rises we have to ensure our business remains sustainable. This is why we have no choice but to apply a small increase to our prices in August.
More information on this will follow in due course but I wanted to give you as much notice as possible and hope you understand the rationale behind the increase. Of course, as always, please do not hesitate to reach out to ask any questions on this or to discuss further.
